WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN COLLEGE – MICRO FICTION CONTEST

Yet another fabulous experience, interacting with the writers-to-be at Women’s Christian College, Chennai, on 24 February 2023.

To see 60 of them seated in the spacious, semi-circular auditorium was quite a swell experience. And so was reading their variegated takes on this creative lead.

LOOKING AT THE TRAFFIC PILE-UP AHEAD THROUGH THE CAB WINDSCREEN, YOUR HEART RACES.

LOOKS LIKE YOU MIGHT MISS YOUR FLIGHT.

YOU PRAY SOME MIRACLE HAPPENS. AND, IT DOES…

HOW DOES THE MIRACLE UNFOLD?

Creativity is like a wild river. It gushes in all possible directions. Who could possibly put a noose around the wild beast?

Yet, I was the judge, invited to pick the top three entries. Quite a task it was, considering the fact that we had a good number of entries that were brilliant and that put me in a quandary as I had to choose the very best from the best.

Though the filtering parameters (such as logical connect, grammatical aspects of the language, and relevance to the lead) helped me in making safe progress in picking up the good ones, they did fall by the wayside when I had to make the hard decisions.

A mutually fair compromise, therefore, is what the organizing team and I settled for… that I wouldn’t compromise on my role any which way. I would give 100% to any entry that earned it. And, if there are many, we would go for the lucky draw. Let luck favour the winner. And, not me.

That erased my guilt and I breathed easy on seeing a happy ending to a complex creative story.
